I just want to test out of the camera still works so I can sell the body to a canon enthusiast. Thanks. It is the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Lens. hpulleyhpulley 4,390 posts Joined Oct 2009 | Yes, it will work fine. I have an EOS 650 which is even older than the 630 (crazy Canon model numbers!) and my 50 f/1.8 II, 135 f/2L, 100-400L and even Tokina 11-16 work on it (the latter at 16mm without vignetting). Autofocus, IS, everything works. Canon has made their EF lenses backward compatible all the way to the original, the EOS 650 from 1987 (though mine has a 1988 date code). Edit: manual controls, flash, it all works. Honestly if you try it you'll see not that much has really changed in 20 years Well, aside from the thing behind the mirror. flickr 1DIIN 40D 1NRS 650 1.4xII EF12II Pel8 50f1.8I 28-80II 17-40L 24-70L 100-400L 177A 199A OC-E3 RS-80N3 LOG IN TO REPLY |

Who are these 'experts' at the camera store then? I asked if there was a lens they can try (they have cannon lenses) to see if it works - I was going to pay for film, battery, everything... But no, they said the new digital lenses for EOS do not work on these EOS film cameras. I'm guessing that they misunderstood what you were asking OR what they'd been told by someone else. As far as I know, any EOS EF mount lens will work on any EOS model camera (film or digital), but the EF-S mounts will only work on new, digital crop sensor cameras. There may be some exceptions I'm not aware of, but hopefully others can bring those to light. - Eric S.: My Birds/Wildlife (7D MkII/5D IV, Canon 10-22 f/3.5-4.5, Canon 24-105L f/4 IS, Canon 70-200L f/2.8 IS MkII, Canon 100-400L f/4.5-5.6 IS I/II) 'The easiest way to improve your photos is to adjust the loose nut between the shutter release and the ground.' I suppose there is a possibility the store only has EF-S lenses which won't fit but I bet they have at least one L lens and all L lenses work on all EOS cameras as they are all EF mount. Perhaps more plausible: they think film means FD mount manual focus which doesn't fit EOS/EF mount cameras but all EOS/EF mount cameras can use all EF lenses without exception. flickr 1DIIN 40D 1NRS 650 1.4xII EF12II Pel8 50f1.8I 28-80II 17-40L 24-70L 100-400L 177A 199A OC-E3 RS-80N3 LOG IN TO REPLY |

hpulleyhpulley 4,390 posts Joined Oct 2009 | Funny reading that old thread. People wondering if Canon would keep the 1.6x format, saying it would only be on entry level cameras... Now the 7D has a 1.6x and can use EF-S lenses! flickr 1DIIN 40D 1NRS 650 1.4xII EF12II Pel8 50f1.8I 28-80II 17-40L 24-70L 100-400L 177A 199A OC-E3 RS-80N3 LOG IN TO REPLY |

I did the same before your post and was like, why am I waiting for an answer. Got the same search and read a ton! But thanks for your effort to post that. As a consumer, I read something like that and think - oh no!! My EF-S lenses will be obsolete... someday. It's like crying about being 65 years old and retired... when? in 25 years! Most of Canon's EF lenses were designed and marketed before the advent of DSLR cameras and and will cover the entire frame on a 35mm camera. The EF-S mount is proprietary to Canon. There are two reasons this mount was developed. The rear elements of EF-S lenses project further into the mirror box and there is a danger the mirror of FF and 1.3X crop cameras could strike the rear element. Also, the field of view of the EF-S lenses is narrower and would cause edge fall-off on the larger sensor cameras. Manufacturers like Tamron, Tokina and Sigma have designed lenses with the narrower field of view for the 1.6 crop cameras, but don't use the EF-S mount. They will mount on any EOS camera, film or digital, but there will be vignetting at the wider focal lengths. John LOG IN TO REPLY |

However, the filter wouldn't prevent the barrel distortion which is not really there much in 1.6x crop but here you can see it on the right edge: href='http://www.flickr.com/photos/hpulley/4170738770/ flickr 1DIIN 40D 1NRS 650 1.4xII EF12II Pel8 50f1.8I 28-80II 17-40L 24-70L 100-400L 177A 199A OC-E3 RS-80N3 LOG IN TO REPLY |
